01 Space and brand

Space and brand design from one table.

Most spaces are designed for opening night. Few are designed for year seven. Materials wear, the concept dates, and a room that once felt inevitable begins to feel ordinary.

Space design is not decoration. It is making the decisions that determine whether the room still works once the opening coverage has moved on — who it serves, how people move through it, which materials survive scrutiny, and what operating model fits inside.

02 Why together

Why space and brand belong to the same work.

A space is the physical form of a brand. Designed apart, they contradict each other in ways guests feel but cannot name.

Concept before images. Who it is for and what it promises. Every later decision inherits this, pricing included.

An identity that lasts. Brand is not a logo on a wall but consistency across material, light, sound and service. A trend reads as dated in three years; character does not.

A space that carries it. Plan, routes and dimensions decide whether the promise survives daily use or only photographs well.

Operations that sustain it. Beautiful spaces fail routinely because nobody asked how they would be run at full capacity on a Saturday.

03 Timing

When to bring in a consultant.

Earliest is cheapest. A layout decision costs nothing on paper, thousands during construction and a refit once the doors are open.

Before the lease is signed. Whether the site can carry the concept at all — access, extraction, floor plate, neighbours — is answered here or never.

Before the design is fixed. The brief is the cheapest thing to change and the most expensive thing to get wrong.

When an existing space tires. Margins soften gradually and rarely for one reason. An outside reading separates concept fatigue from operational drift, which need opposite remedies.

04 Questions

Frequently asked.

What is space design?

Space design aligns how a room works, how it feels and what it earns. It answers who the space is for, how people move through it, what it signals, and whether the solution holds up over years rather than only at opening.

What is the difference between space design and interior design?

Interior design resolves how a space looks and functions. Space design works one level above: what the space should be, for whom, at what price, and how it operates at capacity. Interior design then executes that decision.

Why is brand part of the same work?

A space is the physical form of a brand. Designed separately, the two contradict each other — guests sense it without being able to name the reason.

When should a consultant be involved?

As early as possible. A layout decision costs nothing on paper, thousands during construction and a refit once the doors are open. The other natural moment is when an existing space has tired and margins have started to slip.

Do you work outside Finland?
